NYK signs digital-transformation pact with Microsoft Japan
Japanese shipping group turns to cloud, data and generative AI to reshape logistics

Japanese shipping group NYK has signed a strategic framework agreement with Microsoft Japan to accelerate digital transformation across its shipping and global logistics operations. The tie-up sits at the heart of the group's medium-term plan, which treats digital transformation as a core driver of business change rather than a support function.
Under the deal, NYK will build out the foundations for that shift — cloud infrastructure, data platforms, generative AI and cybersecurity — while investing in training so staff can put generative AI to practical use. The company said it plans to deploy AI agents and richer data to rework existing processes and to create new business models that draw on its shipping and logistics expertise, with the wider aim of developing the maritime and global logistics industries and nurturing the next generation of digital talent.
