Med Marine orders a third tug with Steerprop propulsion
Repeat order for SP 175 T units on a Robert Allan-designed harbour tug

Turkish tug builder and operator Med Marine has ordered propulsion for the third vessel in a series of harbour tugs from Finnish specialist Steerprop, taking two SP 175 T propulsors in a repeat of the package supplied for the first two ships. Those earlier tugs entered service in 2024 as the first to use the supplier's T-series units, which are tailored for the high-performance but cost-sensitive tug market.
The propulsors will go on a Rascal 2100-Z harbour tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd, with the operator still to be confirmed. Each unit will drive a 1.80-metre propeller in a nozzle and deliver 1,080 kW, giving a total bollard pull of 35 tonnes, and the scope also includes wheelhouse controls. The design is built for modularity across compact, high-capability vessels and can be adapted to mechanical, hybrid or electric prime movers; the units and control systems are due for delivery in February 2027.
