**The Russian-flagged cargo ship Fortis was towed by the Turkish Coast Guard to an anchorage off Giresun on 11 October after smoke was found in her hold.** She was carrying 3,300 tonnes of chickpeas from Novorossiysk to Mersin and was reportedly hit by a drone. Her ten crew were evacuated, port personnel cooled the ship to prevent a fire, and no pollution was reported.

**The fire-damaged containership HMM Platinum was approaching South Africa at 6.5 knots on 12 October with restricted manoeuvrability,** accompanied by a tug. Her AIS showed Durban as destination, but Port Elizabeth is being considered because of congestion at Durban. The 5,023 TEU ship, carrying about 2,300 TEU, left Kattupalli in India on 27 September for Santos. SMIT is organising the salvage, and HMM says the cause will be investigated once she reaches a port of refuge. Allianz counted more than 200 reported fires on ships in 2025, with a containership fire on average every 17 days.
