TotalEnergies is cutting its Papua LNG stake and handing operatorship to ExxonMobil

It sells 9.1% to its partners and keeps 20%; Santos bought an additional 3.3% for $189 million, lifting it to 21%. Capital expenditure has been cut to about $14 billion after nearly $4 billion of savings since 2024, with a final investment decision expected in the fourth quarter.

The freight-rate map has split by trade

The SCFI rose 2.3% to 3,590.05 points and the CCFI edged 0.2% higher, while the NCFI fell 0.6% and the Freightos Baltic Index dropped 2% to $3,520. Drewry's composite was broadly stable at $4,465 per 40-foot container, but Shanghai-Los Angeles rose 5% to $7,185 and Shanghai-New York 3% to $9,587, while Shanghai-Rotterdam fell 5% to $4,092 and Shanghai-Genoa 10% to $4,368.

Typhoons are still working through East Asian schedules

Fourteen of the region's busiest ports are recording declines in on-time arrivals, and carriers are advising buffer time, revised documentation and alternative routings while berth backlogs clear.

A fresh round of containership orders spans 1,800 to 22,000 TEU

COSCO Shipping Holdings accounts for the largest commitment at 18 ships of about 283,000 TEU for roughly $3 billion, including twelve 22,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels at Shanghai Waigaoqiao for around $224 million each. Samsung Heavy Industries has two 13,000 TEU ships worth about $323 million for an undisclosed owner, Thenamaris four 3,200 TEU vessels at Hengli, and Turkey's Bayraktar Shipping two 1,800 TEU ships at Wuhan Qingshan, well above its current 830 TEU average.

**Hong Kong has set a single-call record.** The Hong Kong Seaport Alliance completed 8,335 container moves for the MSC Febe at Kwai Tsing over more than 80 continuous hours of berthing, against a typical 3,000 to 4,000 moves for an ultra-large call, with peak crane rates above 34 moves an hour.

Rijeka Gateway has handled its 100th ship in under twelve months

The Maersk-built Adriatic terminal took its 99th and 100th arrivals forty minutes apart, 47 of the hundred being mainline ships, and is the only Adriatic terminal running Gemini transshipment for both Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.

Enstructure has taken control of Logistec's terminal and stevedoring business

The combined network runs to 106 terminals and facilities across the United States and Canada, of which 80 to 90 came from Logistec.

Casualties and enforcement

**The wreck of the Tugberk Imamoglu has been confirmed by ROV.** The freighter lies about 900 metres down in the Sea of Marmara after the 2 September collision; ten crew remain missing and eighteen vessels are assigned to the surface search.

A stevedore has died at Wellington's CentrePort

The worker was employed by C3, and Maritime New Zealand has opened an investigation. It is the first reported fatality at a major New Zealand commercial port since 2022.

Reefer boxes fell onto a truck at Tecon Suape

The 27 August yard incident injured nobody; a preliminary assessment points to human error during a crane operation rather than mechanical failure, and the damaged RTG will be examined separately.

DOF has taken a full transport and installation scope for a North Sea floating wind development

The package covers inshore marine operations, mooring pre-lay, tow-out, turbine installation and both dynamic and static export cables. Client, project, value and schedule were not disclosed.

LS Marine Solution has laid the keel of the cable layer Interocean

The Salt Ship Design vessel is 148.4 metres by 31 metres with 13,000 tonnes of cable capacity and delivery in the first half of 2028, and will be the only ship in South Korea able to lay HVDC submarine cable.

Washington is weighing Japanese, South Korean and Turkish frigate designs

The Mogami, Chungnam and Istanbul classes are named contenders under a Finland-model arrangement in which foreign yards build the first two hulls before production transfers to American shipyards.

HMS Duncan has returned to Portsmouth for her Power Improvement Project refit

She is the sixth and final Type 45 to receive three new diesel generator sets, and will also be fitted with 24 Sea Ceptor cells forward of the existing 48-cell Sylver launcher.
