Lila Global sells 20-year-old VLCC Vadin for $117m, nearly double its price

Bought from Mitsui OSK Lines as Kasagisan for $60.5m, the 2006-built tanker changes hands again at a $56.5m gain

Lila Global has sold the 2006-built VLCC Vadin for a reported $117m, more than twice what it paid for the ship earlier this year. The buyer has not been named.

The tanker was trading as Kasagisan when Mitsui OSK Lines sold her to Lila Global for $60.5m in a deal reported in April. She was renamed Lila Vadinar after the purchase and Vadin in July. The resale leaves a difference of $56.5m between the two transactions on a ship that turns 20 this year.

It is the second VLCC Lila Global has sold in a few months. In June the company sold the 2008-built Lila Kochi, which it had bought in May 2025 for $46.75m, for $79m. That ship has since been renamed Estonia Prosperity and is listed with Sinokor. With Vadin gone, Lila Global no longer owns a VLCC.

Tankers have become a larger part of the company's activity this year. It has added six tankers in 2026, most recently the 2010-built suezmax Cape Benat, formerly Front Loki, for $62.5m. That ship has been renamed Renat, and VesselsValue lists her market value at $74.4m.

The sale lands in a market that keeps setting records. Clarksons Research's ClarkSea Index, which tracks earnings across the main shipping sectors, rose another 14% on Friday to $75,658 a day, its fourth consecutive all-time high. The index has gained 73% in a month, and its average for the year to date is 66% above the same period of 2025.
