Vow’s Scanship firms €6.4m order for sixth cruise newbuild

Advanced wastewater system meeting the strictest Baltic and Alaska standards

Norway's Vow ASA has firmed an agreement through its Scanship unit to supply a 6.4m euro advanced wastewater treatment system to a major European shipyard for a cruise newbuilding, converting what had been an option. The vessel is the sixth in a series.

First equipment delivery is planned for October 2027, with the ship due to enter service toward the end of 2029. The system purifies wastewater to Baltic Sea and Alaska standards, which Scanship describes as the most stringent in the world.

Beyond wastewater, the technology handles sludge, food waste and other biogenic waste from hotel operations, processing it through dewatering, homogenisation and drying before incineration or delivery ashore. That helps cruise operators cut what they discharge and land, an increasingly important selling point as environmental scrutiny of the sector grows.

Chief executive Gunnar Pedersen said the order continues Scanship's long-standing cooperation with the shipyard and cruise line, reinforcing Vow's position in clean-ship technology for the passenger fleet.
