OneSubsea wins one of the largest umbilical awards for Indonesia's Kutei North Hub
The deepwater development off East Kalimantan calls for nearly 95km of steel tube umbilical

OneSubsea has been awarded what it characterises as among the largest umbilical contracts ever placed, supplying a steel tube umbilical system for the Kutei North Hub development off East Kalimantan in Indonesia. The award comes from a field operator jointly owned by two international energy majors.
Under the deal, the company will handle engineering, procurement and manufacturing of 94.6km of umbilical designed for water depths of up to 2,200 metres. The complete system weighs roughly 6,700 tonnes and is rated for a pressure of 10,000 psi. The scope includes fabricating a single continuous umbilical segment 30km long and weighing about 2,100 tonnes, which requires specialised large-scale carousel capacity for production and storage. The company said it would combine two of its production lines to improve manufacturing efficiency and shorten delivery times compared with a standard single-line approach.
Executives said operators increasingly want partners who can advance projects with certainty, and that the award demonstrates how technical expertise and innovative production methods can enable faster, more reliable delivery for demanding deepwater work.
The wider Kutei North Hub project involves drilling 16 production wells at depths of between 1,700 and 2,000 metres, along with subsea equipment tied back to a new floating production, storage and offloading vessel capable of handling more than one billion standard cubic feet of gas a day and 90,000 barrels a day of condensate, with storage for 1.4m barrels. A separate contractor recently secured a $2bn award tied to the FPSO for the development.
