Floatel Triumph Lined Up for Brazilian Safety Unit Work in 2027
A letter of intent covers four to eight months of maintenance and safety unit services
Oslo-based offshore accommodation specialist Floatel International has been awarded a letter of intent for one of its units.
The deal, if it converts, will see the 2016-built Floatel Triumph provide maintenance and safety unit services offshore Brazil to a client that has not been named. The assignment will run for between four and eight months, with commencement scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
Floatel Triumph is a semi-submersible accommodation and construction support unit designed for worldwide operations with the exception of Norway, and is fitted with a Kongsberg dynamic positioning system certified to DP3 class. The unit can accommodate 560 people and carries a telescopic gangway for personnel transfers between the vessel and a host installation.
It is also equipped with a helideck, two deck cranes, a large lay-down area, workshops and warehouses to support logistics, construction and storage work alongside the accommodation function.
Brazil has become one of the steadier sources of demand for flotel tonnage, with maintenance campaigns on producing installations generating multi-month requirements that sit outside the shorter hook-up and commissioning work typical of newer developments. Utilisation in the segment has been supported by a fleet that has not grown materially since the last ordering cycle.
A letter of intent is not a contract, and offshore accommodation awards have a history of slipping as operators move maintenance windows. What it does establish is a claim on the unit's availability during a period when offshore vessel capacity in the region is expected to be tight.
Floatel Triumph was built in 2016, at the tail end of the last ordering cycle for accommodation semi-submersibles, and the absence of newbuilding since then means operators planning maintenance campaigns are competing for a fixed pool of units. Securing an option on one more than a year ahead of the intended start is a reflection of that.
