Lockheed Martin to buy Ultra Maritime for $3.45bn
Deal deepens the defence group's undersea and anti-submarine warfare capabilities

Defence group Lockheed Martin has agreed to buy naval-defence specialist Ultra Maritime for $3.45bn, a move it said would accelerate its ability to deliver advanced undersea and anti-submarine warfare capabilities to the US and allied partners. Ultra, currently owned by a private-equity firm, makes radar and electronic-warfare systems as well as torpedo-defence countermeasures, and its team will fold into Lockheed's rotary and mission systems arm once the deal closes.
The purchase lands in a strong year for defence contractors, with conflicts from Ukraine to the Middle East lifting demand for munitions and naval systems worldwide. Industry figures put global defence spending in 2025 at close to $2.9 trillion, led by a sharp increase among European nations.
