Kongsberg Maritime buys Sweden's Berg Propulsion
The deal broadens the Norwegian group's reach into volume vessel segments

Kongsberg Maritime has agreed to acquire the Swedish propulsion specialist Berg Propulsion in a move designed to broaden its reach across commercial vessel segments and strengthen its aftermarket business. Financial terms were not disclosed, though the buyer said the transaction is priced at roughly the same earnings multiple as its own current market valuation and remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.
Based in Gothenburg, Berg Propulsion designs and manufactures integrated propulsion and electrical systems. The company employs around 400 people and has an installed base of about 4,000 vessels, and it generated revenues of around EUR 160m in 2025 after several years of strong growth. Following completion, it will continue to operate as a separate brand and standalone unit within the acquirer's propulsion division.
The buyer said the deal would expand its exposure to higher-volume vessel segments where Berg has built a strong position, including general cargo ships and product tankers, complementing its own strength in higher-value, performance-driven segments. Its chief executive described the acquisition as central to the company's growth plan, saying it would allow the group to serve a broader range of customers and vessel types.
The combined propulsion portfolio will span controllable pitch propellers, thrusters, hybrid and electric systems and integrated vessel control, and the buyer pointed to aftermarket opportunities from Berg's installed base and future deliveries being supported through its global service network.
