Evos and HyFive sign LOI on e-methanol storage in Rotterdam
Non-binding deal explores storing e-methanol from a planned Spanish plant for the ARA bunker market

Storage operator Evos and fuel developer HyFive have signed a letter of intent to explore the storage and handling of e-methanol in the Port of Rotterdam, with the fuel expected to come from a planned green-methanol plant on Spain's Atlantic coast. Under the non-binding agreement, the two will assess technical and commercial parameters including logistics interfaces and operational requirements.
The move builds on Evos's recently announced expansion for low-carbon methanol and ethanol storage at its Rotterdam terminal, which includes five new tanks with a combined gross capacity of 67,500 cubic metres, a new pump station and a new jetty. Once operational in early 2028, the expansion will give the terminal more capacity to serve industrial customers as well as the growing market in cleaner marine fuels and bunkering. The Spanish plant is planned with an output of 100,000 tonnes a year and start-up targeted from 2029, with the developer already in commercial talks with potential buyers including shipping companies active in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp region.
