Singapore holds top spot in shipping centre index for 13th year
Record throughput and bunker sales underpin another year at number one

Singapore has retained first place in the annual international shipping centre development index for a 13th year running. The result comes as the country's maritime and port authority marks its 30th anniversary and follows record levels of activity at the port in the previous year.
Container throughput reached 44.66m TEU, while vessel arrivals totalled 3.22bn gross tonnes. Singapore also held its position as the world's largest bunkering port, supplying a record 56.77m tonnes of marine fuel, including growing volumes of alternative fuels. The hub is connected to more than 600 ports worldwide and is home to over 200 international shipping groups.
The index assesses maritime centres across port performance, the strength of maritime business services and the wider business environment. Officials said the ranking reflected the collective efforts of industry partners and the broader maritime community, and pledged to keep working to strengthen the city-state's competitiveness as the sector evolves.
The authority, established three decades ago, serves as the country's maritime and port regulator and planner, with responsibilities spanning safety, security, environmental protection, port development, digitalisation, decarbonisation and workforce development.
