Modec bags work on Mozambique's next FLNG development

Floater specialist Modec will supply a SOFEC internal turret mooring system for the Coral Norte FLNG project off Mozambique, developed by Eni with partners CNPC, ENH, XRG and Kogas.

The project is advancing on schedule, with a final investment decision reached in October 2025, the hull launched in January 2026 at Samsung Heavy's Geoje yard in South Korea, and first LNG targeted for 2028. The turret mooring system is a mission-critical component, enabling safe weathervaning, high uptime and resilient operations in the metocean conditions of the Rovuma Basin.

"Coral Norte is an important milestone for the industry and for Mozambique, and we are honoured to contribute to this landmark FLNG project," said Arun Duggal, head of Modec's mooring solutions business unit.

Coral Norte is designed to produce around 3.6m tonnes of LNG a year, doubling the Coral hub's capacity to 7m tonnes. It is conceived as an enhanced replica of Coral Sul, the first development in Mozambique's Area 4 offshore gas block.
