Hong Kong’s EGPN moves into boxships with feeder order
Pair of 1,900 teu feeders at Huangpu Wenchong marks its container debut

Hong Kong-based owner EGPN has entered the containership market for the first time, ordering a pair of 1,900 teu feeder vessels at CSSC's Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for delivery in 2029. The move marks its debut in container shipping and adds to an expansion drive that already spans bulkers, product tankers and chemical tankers.
In April, EGPN ordered four 50,000 dwt MR tankers at CSSC Chengxi Shipyard for delivery in 2027 and 2028, underlining the pace of its fleet growth. The latest order extends that push into a new segment.
Guangzhou-based Huangpu Wenchong has built a strong position in the 1,900 teu feeder niche with its Swan design. The yard has drawn a string of recent orders, including from South Korea's Namsung Shipping and Dongyoung Shipping, Ningbo Ocean Shipping, Greece's OceanV Maritime and a joint booking involving Erasmus Shipinvest and CULines.
For EGPN, feeders offer a foothold in intra-Asia and regional container trades, complementing its tanker and dry bulk interests as it builds out a more diversified fleet.
