Hapag-Lloyd to raise North Europe-US rates by up to $800 from August

The increase applies to dry, reefer and special containers with no end date

Container ship carrying boxes for export at sea

Hapag-Lloyd will raise freight rates on shipments moving from Northern Europe to the United States from the middle of August, with the increase covering dry, reefer and special containers alike. The trigger point is defined as the moment boxes are gated in full, and the new tariff levels are set to remain in place indefinitely.

For 20-foot dry containers, the carrier is adding $400 to existing base rates, taking two major port pairings to $3,075 and another to $3,025. The increase on 40-foot dry containers is $800 per box, lifting the same leading pairings to $4,050 and $4,000 respectively. No end date has been attached to the changes.
