Erasmus Shipinvest orders two more 1,900 TEU feeders at Huangpu Wenchong
The Athens-based owner's firm programme at the Guangzhou yard reaches eight ships, with six options

Athens-based Erasmus Shipinvest has returned to CSSC Huangpu Wenchong for another pair of 1,900 TEU containerships, taking its firm programme with the Guangzhou builder to eight ships. The owner, led by John Su, signed the latest contract with the yard and China Shipbuilding Trading in the past week.
The two ships follow a pair of the same size contracted in July. Neither the price nor the delivery dates have been disclosed. The earlier 1,900 TEU programme was put at about $32m per ship.
The vessels belong to Huangpu Wenchong's Swan feeder series and measure 172 metres long and 27.5 metres wide. The design meets the IMO's EEDI Phase III requirements and is fitted with shore-power capability and scrubbers.
The order extends a fast run of contracting between the two companies. Erasmus first signed for two firm and two optional 1,800 TEU ships in April, followed by 1,900 TEU programmes in June and July. With the new pair, cooperation between Erasmus and Huangpu Wenchong stands at eight firm ships and six options.
Erasmus has been building up its container and dry bulk orderbooks in China at the same time. Earlier this year it firmed a series of eight 82,000 dwt kamsarmaxes at Jiangsu New Hantong, and it has contracted further feeder tonnage at other yards. The company says it manages and operates more than 30 ships across dry bulk, feeder containers and LPG.
The order lands in the same week that fellow Greek feeder owner Contships signed a letter of intent for up to 30 ships of 1,324 TEU at Hubei Guangji (Contships signs for up to 30 feeders), adding to a steady flow of small and mid-sized container tonnage contracted in China this year.
