Damen Launches Fast Crew Supplier Tumar for Kazakh Emergency Ministry

Damen has held the launching and naming ceremony for the Fast Crew Supplier 2710 Tumar, built for the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The parties signed the vessel's technical acceptance during the ceremony on 25 August.

After sea trials planned for September, the vessel will be ready for delivery. Damen and Teniz Zhasagy, the national company operating under the ministry, signed the contract in May this year. The short interval between contract and launch was possible because the hull already existed under the builder's strategic stock vessel programme, which builds standard designs speculatively for later customisation.

The vessel uses Damen's Twin Axe hull form, a design intended to deliver fast, fuel-efficient performance with seakeeping behaviour suited to operations in rough conditions.

Tumar means protector. The vessel will undertake search and rescue, firefighting, oil spill response, medical assistance and other emergency duties to protect lives and critical infrastructure in Kazakh waters.

For this role the standard design has been tailored with a range of equipment, including firefighting systems and an oil spill response solution.

The results of this are plain to see in this impressive vessel," said Murat Mukhanov, chief of staff of the ministry. "I have full confidence in the capabilities of Tumar to fulfil the important responsibility of preserving life and infrastructure in Kazakh waters."

Damen sales director Vadim Akimov said the company was proud to contribute to strengthening Kazakhstan's maritime safety and emergency response capabilities.

Kazakhstan's Caspian Sea coastline hosts substantial offshore oil production, which places both search and rescue and spill response capability among the state's operational requirements.
