Sanmar hands over two tugs to SAAM Towage
Escort and harbour tugs head to Chile and Mexico from the Turkish builder

Turkish builder Sanmar Shipyards has delivered two tugs to SAAM Towage following sea trials at its Altinova yard, with the pair heading to opposite sides of the Americas.
The SAAM Carancho, an escort tug built to Robert Allan's RAstar 2900SX design, offers 80 tonnes of bollard pull and a free-running speed of 12 knots. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3516E engines rated at 2,350 kW each and carries a FiFi 1 firefighting capability. The vessel is bound for Chile.
The second tug, the SAAM Kanan, follows Robert Allan's RAmparts 2400SX-MKII design and is likewise driven by twin Caterpillar 3516E engines of 2,350 kW apiece through two Z-drives, again with FiFi 1 firefighting. It will work in Mexico.
Both vessels comply with IMO Tier III emissions rules. With the handover, the number of Sanmar-built tugs in SAAM Towage's fleet now stands at 15.
