SAL Takes Delivery of MV Mila, First of Four 14K 700 Type Newbuilds
Two 350-tonne cranes give a tandem capacity of 700 tonnes, with three sisters to follow

SAL has taken delivery of MV Mila, the first vessel in its new 14K 700 Type series, adding tandem lifting capacity of 700 tonnes to its heavy lift and project cargo fleet.
The multipurpose vessel carries two cranes, each rated at 350 tonnes. Operated in tandem they can handle cargo weighing up to 700 tonnes, which places the ship in the range required for industrial modules, offshore components, mining machinery and energy infrastructure.
MV Mila is the first of four sister vessels. MV Lina, MV Hannah and MV Pia will follow, though delivery dates and initial employment for the three have not been disclosed.
The design combines heavy lifting capacity with flexible cargo intake, allowing the vessels to carry different combinations of breakbulk, heavy lift and project cargo within the same voyage. For project logistics operators that flexibility carries commercial weight alongside crane capacity, since a single voyage may involve equipment with differing dimensions, weights and handling requirements calling at ports with varying infrastructure.
The onboard cranes also reduce dependence on shore-based lifting equipment. That widens the range of ports available for loading and discharge, particularly where project cargo has to move through locations without suitable heavy lift cranes.
SAL said "the 14K 700 Type vessels were developed for demanding cargo operations and efficient port turnaround." The design is also intended to improve fuel efficiency, though no technical detail covering the propulsion system, fuel consumption or expected emissions performance was released with the announcement.
A stated lifting capacity remains one input among several. Crane outreach, lifting points, cargo dimensions, deck strength and securing arrangements all determine whether a particular unit can be accepted, and each shipment requires detailed engineering before loading begins.
MV Mila has joined the fleet and is expected to begin handling cargo within SAL's multipurpose shipping operations, with the series presented jointly under the SAL and Jumbo alliance.
