Moran Towing christens second ASD harbour tug
The J. Themistoclis Moran joins the US operator's escort-rated newbuild series

US operator Moran Towing has christened a new azimuth stern drive harbour tug, the J. Themistoclis Moran, the second vessel in a newbuild series that began with the William E. Moran delivered in 2025.
The Connecticut-based company had the tug built by Master Boat Builders in Coden, Alabama, to a design by Canada's Robert Allan. It measures 92 ft in length with a 40 ft beam and a depth of 16.6 ft, is rated at 118 gross tons and offers a bollard pull of more than 80 tonnes.
The tug is escort-rated by class society ABS and is powered by two Caterpillar 3516E engines meeting the US Environmental Protection Agency's Tier IV emissions standard, delivering a combined 6,770 hp through twin Z-drives. It also carries low-emission-vessel certification reflecting reduced nitrogen oxide output.
