Cosco and Shell seal four LNG carriers at Jiangnan
Quartet of 175,000-cbm gas carriers will run on long-term charter to Shell

Cosco Shipping Energy, Shell and China's Jiangnan Shipyard have firmed up an order for four 175,000-cbm LNG carriers, marking them at a signing ceremony held at the yard on 25 June. After delivery the vessels will serve Shell under long-term charters, deepening a relationship that spans the wider LNG value chain.
The ships use Jiangnan's established large LNG carrier design, paired with a new-generation twin-skeg hull form intended to improve hydrodynamic performance. They will be powered by LNG-fuelled WinGD X-DF 2.2 main engines with iCER and VCR technology, alongside low methane-slip generators, optimised shaft generators and onboard reliquefaction.
Jiangnan says the package lowers gas and fuel consumption while cutting carbon emissions and methane slip, describing the design as its latest generation of intelligent, flexible LNG carrier. The yard sits under state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation, while Cosco Shipping Energy is the transport group's dedicated energy-shipping arm.
The order extends cooperation between CSSC, Cosco Shipping Group and Shell across LNG shipping, adding modern tonnage to a fast-growing global gas fleet as owners chase more efficient, lower-emission designs.
